Lisbon Portugal Sightseeing
We flew into the Lisbon airport for our Sarnadas de Ródão House Sit in Portugal. We arrived in Portugal almost a week early so we could do some sightseeing. We decided to stay in a Lisbon Hotel for a few days in order to check out the sights. We had rented a car so we had the freedom to see the sights on our own terms.
We use OneTravel.com
We are able to get flights, rent cars and hotels all in one place. They even offer discounts when you combine purchases.
We only had limited time!
We decided with our limited time, we would be able to explore the two main areas of Lisbon. The Alfama area and the Belem area. Lisbon is a big city, being the capital of Portugal. Of course if you want to do Lisbon right, you are going to need more than two days!
We started with the Praça do Comércio
Praça do Comércio translates in English to Commercial Square. This is the historic center of town called Alfama. In fact, King Carols the First was assassinated in the square in 1908. We walked around the beautiful square taking our pictures and stumbled upon a bus stop behind the arch. At this location, you can rent a Tuk-Tuk, Tourist Trams or like we did, a Hop On — Hop Off bus. The only way to see the city. The bus company we used had a choice of four routes!. You could combine routes and get a discount. We chose the route that intertwined in the historic older area of the Alfama district of Lisbon.
Here are some pictures of Praça do Comércio
After checking out the Square, we purchased our tickets for the Hop On – Hop Off bus and explored the rest of Alfama. We didn’t bother stopping anywhere, we just didn’t have the time. All of these pictures were taken from our small bus as it winded through the historic streets. The easy way to do Lisbon Portugal Sightseeing.
After visiting the Alfama area, we found our rent car and headed out to the Belem area. this area we were able to drive from site to site. No bus needed here!
Lisbon is a city rich in History
We just barely saw any of Lisbon in our two days. if you are going to visit Lisbon, you must allow much more time to see the city. If you are coming to Lisbon Portugal Sightseeing, I recommend the Hop On – Hop Off buses. The cheap way to see the city.
