Road Trip to El Valle de Anton, Panama

One of my favorite getaways in Panama

El Valle de Anton is located about an hour away from Coronado.  It is located in the Ancon Valley of the mountains of Panama.  Kind of a weird experience as you drive up and up and up the mountain and all of a sudden you are driving down into the valley.

How El Valle de Anton was formed

El Valle was born some five million years ago after a massive volcano erupted leaving behind a five by three mile crater which later became inhabited by Indians.  It’s volcanic soil makes it the perfect place to grow just about anything.  It’s surrounded by lush forest, colorful flowers and green rolling hills that appear to be covered by broccoli. The town boasts of year round spring like temperatures that range from 82F in the day to a cool 68F at night.  Today, in the lake’s fertile volcanic path, the valley’s are encased in green covered hills and beautiful flowers bloom everywhere.

Nowadays, El Valle is a happening place

The surrounding mountains are full of luxurious homes of some of the well to do of Panama.  There are also many hotels and bed and breakfasts to spend the night in.  You can also find a restaurant to meet your price point from a Panamanian Fonda to a more upscale dining experience.

In El Valle you will find some major attractions.

There is a zoo and a butterfly farm in El Valle for both adults and kids alike to visit.  There is also a Park with a waterfall and zip lining.  Also there are hot springs where you can do the mud bath.  The most popular thing to visit is the Town Market.

The Indigenous Market

This Trip, we visited the Market

There is something there everyday but the weekends come alive with a lot more vendors.  The Indigenous Indian market is pretty much divided into three sections.  Fresh produce, a section of plants/flowers and of course the arts and crafts of the indigenous Indians.

Then we visited Chorro Macho

This is where the waterfall is located.  It is a walk through the beautiful mountain jungle crossing over running creeks on Swaying Rickety Bridges.  There is also zip lining available.  Terry and I have done the zip lining before, but not on this trip.  The other thing to do there is a swimming pool from the natural water coming off of the Waterfall.

If you are in Panama, El Valle is not to be missed!

It is in an excellent location for a day trip from Coronado.  Also many hotels to spend the night in and get away from the heat down the mountain.
